I’m happy to share some exciting fishing news with you.
One of Northern Patagonia’s most notable trout streams, particularly for large fish, is the Rio Limay Medio (also known as the Middle Limay). This stretch of river is located between two enormous lakes and covers approximately 60 miles of prime-time trout water. Freshwater rainbows & German Browns in the 30-inch to 1-meter range do actually live here … seriously! And there are many fish in the 20 to 30-inch range. It’s an amazing fishery and is located approximately 2.5 hours from PRR.
The special news is this — we have bought the EXCLUSIVE ACCESS RIGHTS and EXCLUSIVE FISHING RIGHTS on La Limay Ranch which has significant river frontage on the Limay Medio. This gives us the private fishing rights on many beautiful channels of this river system. Some channels are large and perfect for float fishing, others are small and perfect for wade fishing. One other fishing operation and a few fishing outfitters have access to the Limay River, but it’s much farther upstream. And no public access has ever existed in our section of the river.
There’s a small house on La Limay Ranch which we are in the process of remodeling extensively. For this first season, we will accommodate 4 guests (2 bedrooms/2 baths) with 2 boats per day. It will not equal the quality level of our PRR guest lodge, but it will be comfortable and well appointed in a pristine river location. After this season, we will increase our capacity to 8 guests (4 bedroom/4 baths and 4 boats/day), keeping it a very exclusive experience.
La Limay Outpost
We plan to be open and start taking guests January 1, 2017 and operate through the end of April, in order to enjoy the fall migratory event. The plan for this first season will be to use this as a satellite-type experience for PRR guests to add 3 days before or after their stay at Patagonia River Ranch (we have a 3 day/3 night minimum). However, we will also be offering La Limay Outpost independent of a stay at Patagonia River Ranch.
The rate for our La Limay Outpost is $850/person for each fishing day (based on double occupancy). This rate is all-inclusive: all meals, bar, guided fishing, and transportation to/from the airport. There is daily air service between Buenos Aires and Neuquen City, which is only a one-hour drive via paved highway from our La Limay Outpost.
The fishing at our La Limay Outpost cannot be technically classified as 100% private water, because the large rivers in Patagonia are considered a public asset. The big issue for other fishermen to fish this section of the Limay is how to get on and off the river. From a practical standpoint, the lack of any public access points below our ranch makes this section of river, and all its channels, virtually private for us.
If you have an interest in adding a few days to your PRR trip or to book a separate La Limay trip, to experience this new and exciting fishing destination, please call or email us for more information. The PRR staff, and in particular the fishing guide team, is really excited to start offering this new fishing opportunity to our guests.
We anticipate a lot of interest in this option and since availability is so limited, we suggest you contact us soon.
